Loft services in Tynemouth
Homes in Tynemouth and their lofts
Tynemouth is a small coastal town on the north side of the river mouth, with the priory and castle on the headland, Front Street and its clock tower, and the beaches at Longsands and King Edward's Bay. Much of the housing is older, from the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, with later homes towards Marden and Preston and in North Shields next door.
Older roofs need some care. Lofts may have very little insulation, an uneven mix laid over the years, or roof timbers and felt that have seen a lot of weather. We start with a proper look at the loft, then recommend what fits: usually a top-up of mineral wool to the recommended 270mm, as described on our loft insulation page. Where there's limited depth to work with, SuperFOIL multifoil can be an option, and we'll explain the trade-offs.
If your home is in a conservation area or is listed, changes that show on the outside, such as new roof vents, may need permission. We'll flag anything like that at the assessment, and you can check with North Tyneside Council.
Damp sea air and condensation
On this stretch of coast the air is often damp and the wind comes straight off the North Sea. Moist air from the house rises into the loft, and if the eaves are blocked it condenses on the roof timbers. Adding insulation makes the loft colder, so ventilation has to be right at the same time. We keep airflow clear at the eaves, and our loft ventilation and mould and condensation services deal with any problems we find.
Common loft problems we look for here
- Condensation and mould on rafters and roof boards.
- Thin or mixed old insulation that needs topping up or, if damp or dirty, removing.
- Uninsulated tanks and pipes in older homes.
- Gaps around the hatch that let warm, damp air into the loft.

Loft insulation in Tynemouth: FAQs
Do you cover Cullercoats and North Shields?
Yes. We cover Tynemouth, Cullercoats, Marden, Preston and North Shields (NE29 and NE30). Call 0800 229 4668 if you're not sure about your street.
My house is in a conservation area. Can I still insulate the loft?
Insulating inside the loft usually doesn't change how the house looks. Work that shows outside, such as new roof vents, may need permission, especially on a listed building. We'll point out anything like that, and North Tyneside Council can confirm.
How much does loft insulation cost in Tynemouth?
It depends on the size of the loft, what is already up there, how easy it is to get into and which material suits it. We don't publish set prices because every loft is different. After a free assessment you get a written quotation with the scope, materials and price before anything is agreed. See what affects the cost.
How long does loft insulation take in a Tynemouth home?
It depends on the size of the loft and whether old insulation has to come out first. Most straightforward jobs are short, and your quotation says how long yours should take. There's more detail in how long loft insulation takes.
Are there grants for loft insulation in Tynemouth?
Some households can get help through government-backed schemes, but eligibility depends on the scheme and your circumstances, so we can't promise it. Our guide to loft insulation grants explains where to check.

Good lads. They were professional throughout, took extra care and left the place spotless. We can already feel the difference with the fresh insulation.
Top man Leonardo with the insulation. Did the insulation in a day.
Great service with great prices. I felt very comfortable letting them get on with the insulation. No mess was left behind, and it was definitely needed with the horrible weather.
